Questions

Answers, in plain words

Before you call

Do you work with people who have no papers?

Yes. Many of the people we help have no status yet. We look for any option the law gives them and tell you honestly when there is none.

Will anyone check my status before helping me?

No one checks your status to decide whether to help you. We ask for what we need to understand your case, and it stays with the clinic.

Do you only help with immigration?

Yes. We do not take criminal, family or housing cases. If you ask about one of those, we say so and try to point you to a place that helps.

The cost

Is it really free?

The first conversation is free for everyone. After that, help is free for households under an income limit, and others pay a fee based on income. The government's filing fees are separate.

Can I pay in installments?

Often, yes. We agree the schedule with you in writing before we start.

What if I cannot pay the government's fee?

Some applications have a fee waiver and we check whether you qualify. When there is none, gifts to the clinic sometimes cover a family's fee.

Your case

How long will my case take?

It depends on the kind of case and the office that has it. We give you an honest range in the first visit and we do not promise a date.

Can you promise I will win?

No. No honest lawyer can. We tell you what the law allows, what could go wrong and what we recommend.

What if I get a letter I do not understand?

Bring it or send us a photo by text. We read it with you and tell you whether it has a deadline.

What if my case is in another state?

Call anyway. We may be able to help, or we will tell you who can.

A call or a text is enough to start.
